UP themed first birthday party

Matteo is growing “UP” way too fast! As an event planner I knew the pressure would be on to select a fun and unique theme for my own son’s first birthday party. I wanted something that would be enjoyed by the adults too and something that would make this little guy smile from ear to ear. Matteo loves balloons; he simply cannot get enough of them. Enter the inspiration: Disney Pixar’s UP.

Since the main focus of the theme would be balloons, Events by Laura collaborated with the talented Pacha Balloons to design an unforgettable affair. We started by ordering 250 custom balloons enscribed, “Matteo is growing UP and turning 1!”. These balloons were then mailed to each guest along with a fun invitation created by So Inviting. Once the invitations had been sent I went to work alongside the super talented ladies at Pacha Balloons to style this party. We came up with the idea of hand painted houses as the base/weight for each impressive 20 balloon centerpiece. The girls then recommended we create cloud balloons to suspend from the ceiling and of course we swooned. The last amazing detail they put together was the impressive 9 foot balloon sculpture of the house from the movie which would later be used as a photo booth.

I wanted the party to have a masculine feeling so we worked with the always amazing UnderWraps décor to select the perfect blue linens, napkins and chair covers. We then followed through on the deep blue colour with all the amazing banners and stationary, with my favourite piece being the “Adventure Awaits” banner that greeted guests at the door.

When the guests entered the main hall they were met with a vision of balloons from every angle. The movie UP played in the background and the sweeping views of the sunny sky and golf course below really gave the impression of flying. There was a 16 foot inflatable slide which we presented as “Paradise Falls” and a balloon theme jumping castle “Up, Up and Away”.

While the amazing buffet presented by Copper Creek was as good as always, it was the dessert table that really stole the attention. Events by Laura worked with the talented and amazing Sweet sister Chic sister to bring the theme to edible life! There were flying cakepops, blimp cakepops, Balloon cookies and character cookies all nestled among boxes of colourful popcorn and candy galore. The real show stopper was the three tier cake showcasing the house and the balloons with a custom number one topper. After the candles had been blown out and all the cake was gone, the tiny and adorable guests left with a personalized luggage, filled with goodies and hand tied with a colourful balloon.

After all the planning was said and done I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. The guests were blown away, pun intended and Matteo had the best time. At the end of the day he was able to take home the interactive guest book. I wanted him to have something that would last for years after the party. So I painted the house from the movie on a canvas and asked all the guests to leave an imprint of their finger on the painting, which would look like balloons, the same way they had left an impression on his first birthday forever. Events by Laura couldn’t have pulled this off without the help of all of these amazing vendors but especially without Lisa Crispo! We have had the pleasure of working with Lisa many times and are so honoured she was there to capture these memories for us. Thanks Lisa!
