Baby Shower Photography
I was so excited when I found out the great news that Diana was expecting her first baby and I was even more excited when she asked me to photograph her baby shower!  I met Diana a few years back when I photographed her beautiful wedding day and we have always kept in touch.  With each milestone I have photographed for Diana and her family, I have gotten to know them a bit better each time.

I have never been to a baby shower before so I was in aww when I arrived at Diana’s mother’s home.  It was so beautiful!  There was a tent in her backyard and the set up was so very elegant.  As I was taking photos of the details, I noticed that each guest had their own seating card that was hand written, such a sweet touch! As everyone was ready to have a seat, Diana pointed to my spot at the table!  I was in shock! She had gone out of her way to make me a place card and have me sit with her guests!  I was so touched by her kind gesture.

I have to say that I love that my relationship with my clients grow into beautiful friendships.

Congratulations Diana on the birth of your baby boy!

UP themed first birthday party

 UP themed first birthday party

UP themed first birthday party

Guest Blog by Laura of Events by Laura.

Matteo is growing “UP” way too fast! As an event planner I knew the pressure would be on to select a fun and unique theme for my own son’s first birthday party. I wanted something that would be enjoyed by the adults too and something that would make this little guy smile from ear to ear. Matteo loves balloons; he simply cannot get enough of them. Enter the inspiration: Disney Pixar’s UP.

Since the main focus of the theme would be balloons, Events by Laura collaborated with the talented Pacha Balloons to design an unforgettable affair. We started by ordering 250 custom balloons enscribed, “Matteo is growing UP and turning 1!”. These balloons were then mailed to each guest along with a fun invitation created by So Inviting. Once the invitations had been sent I went to work alongside the super talented ladies at Pacha Balloons to style this party. We came up with the idea of hand painted houses as the base/weight for each impressive 20 balloon centerpiece. The girls then recommended we create cloud balloons to suspend from the ceiling and of course we swooned. The last amazing detail they put together was the impressive 9 foot balloon sculpture of the house from the movie which would later be used as a photo booth.

I wanted the party to have a masculine feeling so we worked with the always amazing UnderWraps décor to select the perfect blue linens, napkins and chair covers. We then followed through on the deep blue colour with all the amazing banners and stationary, with my favourite piece being the “Adventure Awaits” banner that greeted guests at the door.

When the guests entered the main hall they were met with a vision of balloons from every angle. The movie UP played in the background and the sweeping views of the sunny sky and golf course below really gave the impression of flying. There was a 16 foot inflatable slide which we presented as “Paradise Falls” and a balloon theme jumping castle “Up, Up and Away”.

While the amazing buffet presented by Copper Creek was as good as always, it was the dessert table that really stole the attention. Events by Laura worked with the talented and amazing Sweet sister Chic sister to bring the theme to edible life! There were flying cakepops, blimp cakepops, Balloon cookies and character cookies all nestled among boxes of colourful popcorn and candy galore. The real show stopper was the three tier cake showcasing the house and the balloons with a custom number one topper. After the candles had been blown out and all the cake was gone, the tiny and adorable guests left with a personalized luggage, filled with goodies and hand tied with a colourful balloon.

After all the planning was said and done I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. The guests were blown away, pun intended and Matteo had the best time. At the end of the day he was able to take home the interactive guest book. I wanted him to have something that would last for years after the party. So I painted the house from the movie on a canvas and asked all the guests to leave an imprint of their finger on the painting, which would look like balloons, the same way they had left an impression on his first birthday forever. Events by Laura couldn’t have pulled this off without the help of all of these amazing vendors but especially without Lisa Crispo! We have had the pleasure of working with Lisa many times and are so honoured she was there to capture these memories for us. Thanks Lisa!

Mommy photo challenge!

Mommy photo challenge!

Why a mommy photo challenge? This is why …

When I get a call for a newborn session I always try to get the whole family involved in the photo shoot.  The response I usually get from all the moms is “I’m not ready to be photographed” or “Don’t worry about me, I just want photos of my baby” or “I’ll wait until my baby is one to get into the photos”.

I know that right after having my children, I didn’t look how I wanted to look.  I was carrying about 30 lbs. of extra weight and I was so tired.  I tried to get in front of the camera for some photos with my children and I wish I did it more than I actually did.  I realized now that it really didn’t matter how I looked.  When my children look back at the photos we did take together they look at them with love and admiration and are happy to have had photos taken with me when they were just babies.  Let’s face it, all kids think their moms are beautiful, and they are RIGHT!

Lisa wasn’t any different than any other mom who preferred not to have her photo taken soon after her twins were born.  I had to do some convincing and it was a challenge.  I promised her that she would look great in the photos.  I gave Lisa some little advice that would give great result.  Want to know what it was? Get your hair and make up done professionally!  That morning, Lisa left her children at home with her amazing husband and went off to get her hair and make up done for the session. She looked great!

The Results

Once I was finished with editing the photos, I sent Lisa her password for her private online gallery. That same day, I received a beautiful email from Lisa thanking me for giving her that push she needed to be in the photos! I was so happy that she loved the photos especially the photos of her with her babies.

I challenge all the mommies to get in the photo too!

This Mother’s day, don’t be the one behind the camera. Have your photo taken with your children because Mommy is important too!

First Communion Photo Shoot

First Communion Photo Shoot

First communion season has officially begun! It is a very exciting time for Catholic children who will be receiving communion for the first time. I love this time of year and seeing all the adorable little ones all dressed up.

When Lisa hired me for her daughter’s first communion portraits she told me that they would be celebrating at home. I was in awe when I arrived at her home and saw the beautiful and intimate setup. The decor was elegant with clear Chavari chairs and ivory and blush striped table linens from Underwraps Decor.  There were beautiful fresh flowers with a lot of tulips (my favourite) by Terra Cotta Homes and Garden.  Lisa did a fabulous job of putting everything together. It was all so perfect for a little girl on her first communion.

This little Miss was great in front of the camera!  We had a great time during her first communion photo shoot!  I could not believe how comfortable she was having her photo taken.  She had a genuine smile that lit up the room.  I couldn’t help but smile the whole time I was taking her photos, her smile was truly contagious. Her room was so pretty and absolutely perfect for her first communion photo shoot, I wish I had a room like her’s when I was little.

Easter Birthday Party!

Easter Birthday Party!

Over the Easter weekend I had the privilege of photographing an Easter Birthday Party by Arti Mestieri Events.   The decor was breathtaking and it fit the Easter theme perfectly for a beautiful little girl.   Arti Mestieri Events put together such a beautiful and memorable 2nd birthday party complete with a all of Faith’s favourite things.  I personally know that Faith LOVED the bunny juice boxes, she had a couple and saved a few more in her little Easter basket.

A Mini Little Model!

It didn’t take the little birthday girl too long to warm up to me.  I have photographed Faith several times since she was born but she always likes to play shy with me.  I love her facial expressions in the sequence of photos below.  I was actually shocked when she gave me a little modelling photo shoot!
